1. The control number matches the Library of Congress # (imports)
The 001 of the imported record matches the 010 $a of an existing record
Or
2. The control numbers match (imports)
001/003 of the imported record matches the 035 $a of an existing record
Or
3. Library of Congress # matches
The 010 $a (Library of Congress Number) of the incoming record matches the 010 $a (Library of Congress Number) of an existing record
4. ISBN (a subfield) matches
The 020 $a (ISBN) of the incoming record matches the 020 $a (ISBN) of an existing record
Note: Works with 13-digit and 10-digit ISBN. In both cases it ignores the last digit. One record can have a 13-digit and the other a 10-digit ISBN.
Or
5. ISSN, Type of record and Bibliographic level matches
The 022 $a (ISSN) of the incoming record matches the 022 $a (ISSN) of an existing record
and
The LDR/06 (Type of record) of the incoming record matches the LDR/06 (Type of record) of an existing record
and
The LDR/07 (Bibliographic level) of the incoming record matches the LDR/07 (Bibliographic level) of an existing record
Note: Serials and monograph records will not match. In order to combine records, change the bibliographic level on the record that you would like to replace to match the record that will be retained.
Or
6. Type of record, Bibliographic level, author, title (subfield a) and Date 1 matches
The LDR/06 (Type of record) of the incoming record matches the LDR/06 (Type of record) of an existing record
and
The LDR/07 (Bibliographic level) of the incoming record matches the LDR/07 (Bibliographic level) of an existing record
and
The 1xx $a (Main entry) of the incoming record matches the 1xx $a (Main entry) of an existing record
and
The 245 $a (Title statement) of the incoming record matches the 245 $a (Title statement) of an existing record
and
The 008/07-10 (Date 1) of the incoming record matches the 008/07-10 (Date 1) of an existing record.
Note: Most problematic with inconsistent use of 245 subfield a for books and audiobooks when ISBN does not match.
Series titles/parts ($a Ultimate Spider-man. $p Power and responsibility vs. $a Power and responsibility /) and
general media descriptors at the end of the title ($a Power and responsibility (CD) vs. $a Power and responsibility $h[compact audio disc])
Or
7. Type of record, Bibliographic level, title (subfield a) and Date 1 matches

Note: This only works if the 260 $c is the same (no extra letters/dates)
